Counting Coins Facts:
- 1 penny = 1 cent
- 1 nickel = 5 cents
- 1 dime = 10 cents
- 1 quarter = 25 cents
- 1 dollar = 100 cents
- Look at the question.
- q represents quarter = 25 cents,
- d represents dime = 10,
- n represents nickel = 5,
- p represents penny = 1
- Calculate the amount for quarters, dimes, nickles and dimes
- Add the sum
Example: q q q p p p n n
In the above there are 3 quarters, 3 pennies, 2 nickels
3 quarters = 25+25+25 = 75 cents
2 pennies = 2 cents
2 nickels = 5+5 = 10 cents
Hence on adding we get 75+2+10 = 87 cents
