3.16 Addition and Subtraction Story Problems

Method:

  • When we add more to something it is addition.
  • When we remove certain things from a whole it is subtraction.

Example:
Addition
There are 3 balls in a basket, 2 more balls are put into it. Find the total number of balls.
The answer is 3 +2 = 5
Answer: 5 balls

Example:
Subtraction
There are 4 balls in a basket, if 2 are taken out, how many are remaining in the basket.
The answer is 4-2 = 2.
Answer: 2 balls
