Grade 6 - Mathematics 3.25 Arranging Rational Numbers in Descending Order

Rational numbers with same denominator:
Compare the numerators and arrange the rational numbers in descending order from highest to lowest.

Rational numbers with different denominators:
Find the LCM of the denominators
Write the equivalent fractions
Compare the numerators and arrange the rational numbers in descending order from highest to lowest.

Example: Arrange the rational numbers 1/2, 2/3, and 7/8 in descending order.

The LCM of the denominators 2, 3, and 8 is 24.
Rewrite the rational numbers with a common denominator.
1/2 = 12/24
2/3 = 16/24
7/8 = 21/24

Therefore, arranging in descending order, we get 7/8 > 2/3 > 1/2.

Directions: Arrange the given rational numbers in descending order. Also write at least 10 examples of your own.
