The coordinate plane or Coordinate grid or Coordinate graph:
The xaxis extends to the right and left of the origin. Notice that the numbers to the left of zero on the xaxis are negative.
The yaxis extends above and below the origin. Notice that the numbers below zero on the yaxis are negative.
The xaxis and the yaxis separate the coordinate plane into four quadrants.
The xaxis and the yaxis separate the coordinate plane into four regions called quadrants.
The quadrants are named I, II, III, and IV.
Integer coordinates are pairs of integers that are used to determine points in a grid, relative to a special point called the origin. The origin has coordinates (0,0).
Any other point in the grid has a pair of coordinates (x,y).
The x value or xcoordinate tells how many steps left or right, the point is from the point (0,0).
The y value or ycoordinate tells how many steps up or down the point is from the point (0,0).
Using coordinates, we can give the location of any point in the grid, by simply using an ordered pair.
Directions: Answer the following questions using the coordinates grid shown above. Also graph at least ten points and name the quadrant and its ordered pair.
