Nouns are words that stand for a person, place, thing, or an idea. They can be singular (one) or plural (more than one).

Proper nouns name specific people, places or things. They begin with capital letters.
Examples: Detroit, Abraham Lincoln, Mozart, Pacific Ocean, Red Sea

Common nouns name nonspecific people, places or things. They do not begin with capital letters.
Examples: city, chair, book, university, man, dog, sea
