RULES FOR FULL STOP (Period):

  • Period is used at the end of an affirmative sentence.
    Example: I go to school everyday.

  • Period is used to end orders.
    Examples:
    Give me the book.
    Leave me alone.

  • Period is not used if the sentence ends with a question or an exclamation mark.
    Examples:
    Did you do your homework?
    What a mess!

  • Periods are also used in abbreviations.
    Examples:
    Mrs. Williamson, 45 lbs., C.N.B.C., etc., e.g., i.e.

  • Don't use a period for acronyms.
    Examples: UN (United Nations), NATO (North American Treaty Organization)

  • Periods are also used after an initial in a person's name.
    Examples: Susan B. Anthony, C.S. Lewis

  • Periods are also used in decimals.
    Example: $4.56
