Ratio
Is a comparison of two numbers.
The two numbers in the ratio are separated with a colon (:).
It can be written as x/y or x:y or x to y
Note: To write a ratio, remember to use the same unit.
Examples:
Write the ratio of 4 and 5.
It can be written as 4:5 or as a fraction 4/5, and we say the ratio is four to five.
Express the ratio of 1 hour to 1 day. Solution: Convert days to hours.
1 day = 24 hours
ratio of 1 hour to 1 day is written as 1:24
Proportion: is when you equate two ratios. Example:
Solve for x in 4:x = 9:18 Solution:
Rewrite the ratio in fraction form: 4/x = 9/18
Cross-multiply: 9x = 72
so x = 8 Directions: Choose the correct answers. Also write at least ten examples of your own.
