### Grade 6 - Mathematics3.2 Rational Numbers

Rrational number: Rational number is a number of the form a/b, where a and b are integers, and b is not equal to zero. We denote the set of rational numbers by "Q". As the name suggest Rational numbers are made of Ratio's. Examples: 5/7, 96/5, 2635/56, ..... are examples of rational numbers. 59/0, 96/0, 89/0, .... are not rational numbers, because the denominator is zero. Every whole number is a rational number, because any whole number can be written as a fraction. For example, 3 can be written in the form of fraction p/q as 3/1. A rational number is any integer, any fraction, any mixed number, or any decimal, whether positive, negative, or 0. Examples of rational numbers: 1 can be written in the form of fraction p/q as 1/1 −6 can be written in the form of fraction p/q as -6/1 3½ can be written in the form of fraction p/q as 7/2 −2 can be written in the form of fraction p/q as -2/1 0 can be written in the form of fraction p/q as 0/1 7.3/8609 is in the form of fraction. -1.25 can be written in the form of fraction p/q as -5/4 .5 can be written in the form of fraction p/q as 1/2 0.007 terminating decimal can be written in the form of fraction p/q as 7/1000 0.66666.......repeating decimal can be written in the form of fraction as 2/3.
