7.5 Elapsed Time

Method:

  1. 4:30 is also read as half past 4. (because 30 minutes makes half an hour)
  2. 4:15 is also read as quarter past 4. (because 15 minutes makes quarter hour)
  3. The elapsed time is the difference between two intervals of time.
Example: The show started at 2.20 pm and ended at 3.45 pm. How long did the show go on?
Start time = 2:20
End time = 3:45
Time elapsed = 3:45 - 2:20 (2:20 to 3:20 is 1 hour, 3:20 to 3:45 is 25 minutes)
1 hour 25 minutes
Answer: 1:25
