An expression or algebraic expression is a phrase, a sentence fragment. We can simplify an expression and has no relation symbol.

Example:
a number less than ten
x < 10
two less than a number
x - 2

An equation or algebraic equation is a sentence. We have to solve an equation to find the value or solution. It has a relation symbol "equal to".
Example:
Ten is five less than a number.
10 = x - 5

An Inequation is also a sentence with a greater than or less than sign.
A number is less than five.
x < 5
