Example:
The total number of students in a class is 35, out of which 18 are girls. Find the ratio of number of boys and girls.
Total number of girls = 35
Number of girls = 18
Number of boys = 35 - 18
Hence number of boys = 17
Ratio of boys to girls = 17/18
Answer: 17:18
