Grade 3 - Mathematics 2.9 Multiplication and Division as Inverse Operations
An inverse operation reverses another operation.
Addition and subtraction are inverses of each other.
Example:
The addition fact 9 + 5 = 14
can be written as subtraction fact as
14 - 5 = 9 or
14 - 9 = 5
Similarly, multiplication and division are inverses of each other.
Example:
The multiplication fact 11 × 5 = 55
can be written as division fact as
55 ÷ 5 = 11 or
55 ÷ 11 = 5
Directions: Answer the following questions. Also write at least ten examples for multiplication and division as inverse operations.
