3.16 Measuring Angles
When two rays meet at a common point called the
vertex
, an angle is formed.
An angle that measures 90 degrees is called
right angle.
An angle that measures less than 90 degrees is an
acute angle.
An angle that measures more than 90 degrees is an
obtuse angle.
A straight line has an angle that measures 180 degrees.
An angle that measures more than 180 degrees is
reflex angle.
If two angles add up to 180
0
they are called
supplementary angles.
If two angles add up to 90
0
they are called
complementary angles.
Ruler
is used to measure the lengths of segments and protractor is used to measure angles.
Degree
is the measure of angle.
Directions:
Answer the following questions. Also draw two rays meeting at a point and name its vertex and measure its angle.

>90 degrees
Q 4
: You measure an angle by measuring the size of its opening in degrees by placing the protractors center on the vertex of the angle and the zero mark along one ray.
False
True
Q 5
: The ______ angles are greater than right angles.
right
