Grade 2 - Mathematics
1.41 Subtracting Two Digit Numbers Horizontally

Method:

  1. Start by subtracting the numbers in ones place and then move to tens digit.
  2. If the subtrahend in ones place is less than minuend, we borrow 1 from the subtrahend in tens digit
  3. After borrowing the number in tens place is reduced by 1.

Example:
34 -19
Start subtracting numbers in ones place that is 4 and 9 .
Since 4 is less than 9, we borrow 1 from 3 and 3 becomes 2.
So we have 14-9 in ones place and 2-1 in tens place.
