8.12 Convert Mixed Number to Improper Fraction

Method:
  1. Multiply the whole number of the mixed fraction to the denominator of the fractional part.
  2. To this product add the numerator.
  3. The resulting fraction is this sum by the denominator of the fractional part.
Example: 3 1/2 - Convert to improper fraction.
  1. Multiply the whole number with the denominator, this gives 2 x 3 = 6.
  2. Add the numerator to this, that gives 6 + 1 = 7.
  3. Hence the improper fraction is 7/2.
Answer: 7/2
