3.6 Expanded Form - Numbers to 100,000

Method:
  1. Start from the right most digit.
  2. Going from right to left, the place values of the digits are ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, and ten thousands.
  3. Each digit is multiplied by the place value to get the expanded form of a number.

Example: What is the expanded form of 90,536,121?
Ten Thousands Thousands Hundreds Tens Ones
9 7 5 3 5

9x10,000,000 + 0 + 5x100,000 + 3x10,000 + 6x1,000 + 1x100 + 2x10 + 3x1
Answer: 90,000,000 + 0 + 500,000 + 30,000 + 6,000 + 100 + 20 + 3
