1.31 Essays for College Admissions Applications (MIT)

Many undergraduate university applications require the applicants to write essays. For example, Massachusetts Institute of Technology required all applicants in 2008 to answer one of the following questions.
  1. Tell us about an experience which, at the time, really felt like “the end of the world”— but had it not happened, you would not be who you are today. Describe the process through which you discovered value in the negative.

  2. Describe the world you come from, for example your family, clubs, school, community, city, or town. How has that world shaped your dreams and aspirations?
To practice for your own college admissions applications, answer one of the above questions. You responses should be on a separate sheet of paper and should be of approximately 500 words. Make sure your name and the question text are on each sheet of paper you include.
