The equation of a line passing through a point P(x_{1} , y_{1}) having a slope m is (y  y_{1}) = m(x  x_{1}).
This form of a line is called the PointSlope form.
Example:
Find the equation of a line passing through (3,5) having a slope 3.
Solution:
Given that slope is 3
i.e., m = 3
A point on the line is (3,5)
Using the point slope form equation,
i.e., (y  y_{1}) = m(x  x_{1}).
y  5 = 3(x  3)
y  5 = 3x  9
y = 3x  9 + 5
y = 3x  4
Therefore, y = 3x 4 is the required equation of the line.
