
Formula: If (x_{1}, y_{1}) and (x_{2},y_{2}) are any two points on a line the ration (y_{2}  y_{1})/(x_{2}  x_{1}) is constant called the slope of the line, and it is denoted by m. Therefore, m = (y_{2}  y_{1})/(x_{2}  x_{1}) or (y_{1}  y_{2})/(x_{1}  x_{2}). The slope is a ratio of vertical to horizontal distances. Slope = rise/run.
