### Middle/High School Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics (AGS)9.19 Measures of Location or Measures of Central Tendency

It is observed that many a times in a frequency distribution, the value crowds around a central value which is some sort of an average. Let us take an example to illustrate this fact. Consider the data on heights of a group of students. Suppose that the minimum and the maximum heights in this group are 140 cm and 175 cm. Generally it is found that the number of observations near the two extremes is small. However there is a clustering near the central part of the range, say 154 to 161 cm. This property of data is called Central Tendency and the value around which there is a concentration is called measure of central tendencyor measure of location The five measures of central tendency are: Arithmetic Mean (A.M.) Geometric Mean (G.M.) Harmonic Mean (H.M.) Mode Median
