High School Mathematics 4.49 Slant Height of a Cone
Example:
The height of a tent is 10 cm. Its base diameter is 48 cm. What is its slant height? Solution:
Height of a tent (h) = 10cm.
Its base radius (r) = diameter/2 = 48/2 = 24cm.
l^{2} = h^{2} + r^{2}
l^{2} = 10^{2} + 24^{2}
l^{2} = 100 + 576
l^{2} = 676
l = Ö676
l = 26cm.
Therefore, the slant height is 26cm.
