2.7 Square Root (Factorization Method)

Square root:
If a number is multiplied by itself then the product is said to be square of the number.

Perfect Square:
If a number can be written as the product of two equal factors then the number said to be perfect square.

Example: Find the square root of 144.

  1. Factorize 144.
  2. 144 = 12 x 12
  3. 12 can be written as 4 x 3.
  4. 4 can be written as 2x2.
  5. Hence 144 is 2x2x3x2x2x3.
  6. Therefore the square root of 144 is 2x2x3 = 12
Answer: 12
