High School Mathematics - 2
9.3 Slope - I

The slope is a ratio of vertical to horizontal distances. Slope = rise/run.

Example - I:
Find the slope of the line y = 3x.
Solution:
This is in the form of y = mx
Therefore, slope of y =mx is m,
Therefore the slope of the equation = 3.

Example - II:
Find the slope of the line 3y = x.
Solution:
We may convert the given line in the form of y = mx.
i.e., 3y = x
y = (1/3)x
The slope for y = mx is m
Therefore the slope of the given line is 1/3.

Directions: Find the slopes of the given lines. Also write at least ten equations of your own and find their slopes.
