Example:
Solve, x + y = 7 and x - y = 3.
Solution:
Given that,
x + y = 7 ---------(I)
x - y = 3 ---------(II)
Adding both equations, we get
(x + y = 7) + (x - y = 3)
x + y + x - y = 7 + 3
2x = 10
x = 10/2
x = 5
Substituting x value in equation (I) or (II) we get the value of y.
x + y = 7
5 + y = 7
y = 7 - 5
y = 2
Therefore, the solution set is (5,2).
