If we place two number lines at right angles, intersecting at their origins, we obtain a twodimensional rectangular coordinate system. It is also called Cartesian coordinate system. The number lines intersect at the origin. The horizontal line is called the xaxis.
The vertical line is called the yaxis. The plane into which the coordinates system is introduced is the coordinate plane or xyplane. The xaxis and yaxis divide the plane into four region, or quadrants. The points on the xaxis or yaxis belong to no quadrant.
Directions: Choose the correct answer. Also take a graph paper and draw 4 quadrants and plot 30 points in all the four quadrants.
