High School Mathematics 8.7 Domain and Range of a Relation

Relation:
A relation is a set of ordered pairs. Every set of ordered pairs is a relation we use the letter 'R' to denote a relation.

Domain:
The set of first coordinates of all the ordered pairs of a relation R is called the domain of R.

Range:
The set of second coordinates of the ordered pairs of a relation R is called the range of R.

Example:
If R = {(1,2),(2,4),(4,8),(8,16)} is a relation then find its domain and range Solution:
Domain of R = The set of all first coordinates of members of R.
= {1,2,4,8}
Range of R = The set of all second coordinates of members of R.
= {2,4,8,16}

Directions: Find the domaine and range of the following relation. Also write at least ten examples of your own.
