Three methods to find square roots of algebraic expressions which are not monomials are:
 Inspection Method (Using special products).
 Division Method.
 Method of undetermined coefficients.
Inspection Method.
Example:
Find the square root of 9x^{2} + 12x + 4, using special product.
Solution:
Given that, 9x^{2} + 12x + 4,
We can write this as, (3x)^{2} + 2.3x.2 + 2^{2}.
This is in the form of (a + b)^{2} = a^{2} + 2ab + b^{2}.
Therefore, (3x + 2)^{2}
Ö(3x+2)^{2} = 3x + 2.
