Ron has 25 dogs and 15 cats. What part of the animals are cats? Solution:
There are 25 dogs and 15 cats, so their sum is 25+15 = 40.
So the cats are 15/40
15/40 = 3/8 Example 2:
There are 2 black cars, 8 red cars, and 4 green cars in the parking lot. What fractional part of the cars in this lot is not black? Solution:
The cars that are not black = 8+4 = 12
The total number of cars = 2+8+4 = 14
So the cars that are not blue = 12/14
12/14 = 6/7 Directions: Solve the following word problems with fractions.
